How to Make A Lasting Impression on Your Date

Haha, this is the first time I blog and write about such subjects. I think some may think it is relevant for singles only, but read on... it can be helpful to couples too! as couples need to impress their wife/husband too to maintain the relationship. So, how to impress your date or partner? Sense of humour... Loosen up a little with your date and you could find yourself making inroads into his or her heart. In a study done by scientists from the University of California published in Psychonomic Bulletin & Review, a good sense of humour is one of the most desirable traits men and women look for in a romantic partner. Men and women define "having a good sense of humour" differently. What women want is someone who makes them laugh. On the other hand, men simply want someone who will laugh at their jokes. In any case, it is important for both partners to be able to make each other laugh in the long term, as stress from work, finances, kids and health can put a strain on a

How to Teach a Primary One Subtraction

I use Kumon's method of backcounting to teach a Primary One subtraction. Example 17 - 5, I will tell the student to start with 17 and backcounts from 1 to 5 by narrating 16, 15, 14, 13 and 12, with 12 being the answer. Another method is forward counting, for example 9 -4, I will ask the student to start counting from 4, by narrating 5, 6, 7, 8, until 9, then count how many fingers he use, and that will be the answer ie. 5. I find that it is very challenging to teach lower primary students, as there are many things which they don't know, so the simpler it is, the more difficult to teach, what do you think?

This is what I feel after I discovered that there are some people who like to compare. Compare how smart they are, how rich they are, how long they worked in a company etc etc. On contrary, I feel that it is important not to compare but to be self contented. If you keep comparing and competing with other people, you may lose sight of the simple happiness that is just besides you. But some people feel comparing is competition and competition improves one life. What do you think?

Dinner & Shopping at Citylink Mall

Today is my off day, so I went to Sakae Sushi to have my dinner with my youngest sis. The bill sums up to S$45 but because Citibank Credit Card holders enjoy a 10% discount so the bill ends up to be S$40 which is really value for money. I also bought a dress at Hypnosis while waiting for sis to arrive. Original price is S$59 but after 20% discount because of the Great Singapore Sale, the discounted price is S$47.20. I like the dress very much.

Salted Vegetable Duck Soup Next? 咸菜鸭汤Next?

This is one of my favourite Chinese soup, next is the ABC soup and the 猪肚汤。 All that's needed - 2 bulb of garlic, 5-8 slices of ginger, 2 star anise, 4-5 plums, 2 large tomatoes sliced into wedges. Next ingredient is the salted vegetables. Soak in hot water for 15mins then rinse and soak in room temp water for a further 20mins to minimize the saltiness. Place the ingredients into a soup pot and add water; boil it for 1-1.5hrs and it's done! No need to add any seasoning as the soup was already very tasty on its own.

My Dream Bedroom

These are my dream bedrooms, the cabinets, cupboards and drawers have to be in pure white colour and have to be custom made. My actual bedroom is unlike these and is in a mess.

Stay Positive

Just the other day, I returned home from school feeling really down. I received a "C" for a piece of art that I had worked very hard on. My classmates make fun of my new haircut. Then I lost my favourite pencil. To top it all off, my best friend was absent from school, so I could not share my woes with her. However when I sat on my bed and thought things over for a while, I realised that these troubles were only temporary. I can aim to score a better grade on my next art assignment. My hair will grow back. I can always use the other pencils that I have. In other words, I have what it takes to move on. I do not have to let a bad day get me down. I certainly do not have to feel like a failure. After thinking about that, I felt a lot better and decided to make the next day a better one. You can do the same too! There's a saying that goes, "When life throws lemons at you, make lemonade." It means that when you face any difficulties in life, make the best of the

12 Gifts For You

Read this in one of the blogs and thought it would be nice to share it. Here it is: The wealthy, extraordinary life I longed for was vanishing further out of reach with each passing year. I didn’t realize it, but I was searching for something I already had. Cloaked before me, right within my immediate reach was a beautiful life worth living. All I had to do was open my eyes and change my perspective. Maybe you feel like the fire is gone and there's just nothing exciting in your life. Maybe you're just plain disheartened with who you have become and the life you are living. No matter how discontent you might feel, know it's only temporary. You can choose to change that feeling if you lift your veil of dismay and aim to create clarity about your life and what matters. Focus on these 12 gifts and the world will seem like a much brighter place: 1. Your buddy network. Friends are there to comfort and guide you every step of the way. They also deal wit

Mee Siam Next?

Mee Siam which means "Siamese noodles", is a dish of thin rice noodles (vermicelli) in spicy, sweet and sour light gravy. It is one of the popular one-dish meals in Singapore and Malaysia. Am contemplating to cook Mee Siam after seeing Mamabliss's Mee Siam dish in Facebook. But I don't think I am using prawns, instead I will like to try Chicken Breast Meat cut into slices. This is the ready to cook sauce kit available in supermarkets. I use Prima brand. This Prima Sauce Kit contains Mee Siam Paste, Chili Paste for Rice Vermicelli (Bee Hoon Sambal), Sambal Chili and Lime juice. This is the recipe:   A: To cook bee hoon ( rice vermicelli ): 1. Soak dry bee hoon (125g) in a pot of hot water until soft. 2. Heat Bee Hoon Sambal with 75ml water in wok or frying pan on medium heat for 1 min.  Stir well. 3. Add soaked bee hoon (from step A1) and stir-fry.  Mix the gravy with the bee hoon until gravy is evenly soaked up by the bee hoon. 4. Transfer to a serving bow

My New Hobby - Learn How to Cook

Yes, this is my new hobby, learning how to cook, I have been blog-hopping and google-ing for more recipes to try on. It is a new experience for me to learn how to cook, and I must say it takes a lot of patience in cooking, the peeling, cutting, blending, grating, cooking, washing and cleaning up. It is simply not easy which is why I prefer those simple to cook meals. Fellow blogger friends, do give me your support in my cooking journey, ok? *smile*

My First Attempt

This is my first attempt in cooking chicken with mushrooms, the chicken stock sauce turns out to be a bit saltish which I know what is the reason. It is because I coated the chicken with salt and didn't wash thoroughly after that. I shall not coat the chicken with salt the next time. I used Daydreamer's recipe in cooking the chicken with mushrooms but I did not follow every step in her recipe, some steps were carried out base on my gut feel. And here, da-duh! This is the end result - dinner for my family tonight.

Recipe - Minced Meat & Tofu Patties Burgers

I love off days where I can wake up late and indulge all the time I want to cook (I'm very clumsy when having to rush). Was browsing through several blogs and came across this recipe posted by Daydreamer. Minced Pork & Tofu Patties 330g lean minced pork 170g silken tofu 1 small purple onion, peeled and finely chopped Pinch of salt and ground black pepper Handful of grated parmesan cheese 1/2 Tbsp english mustard 1 small egg 58g breadcrumbs (I bought Jap brand used for deep frying) Steps: Fry the onion with a little oil in a pan for few minutes until softened. When the onion completely cool down, mix it to the meat. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well (I use hand). (If the mixture is too sticky, add more breadcrumbs. I also added more parmesan cheese). Shape the meat into patties depending on size and thickness desired. Place the patties on a tray with greaseproof paper or Silpat. The patties will be slightly soft as tofu is used instead of

Sometimes I feel that I don't even need the television and newspapers because I have the Internet. You get to read news on Yahoo News, you get to watch programmes and drama online and you can get entertained by online Facebook games. So many things to do on the Internet that you don't even need the other mass media. Me-time is very precious to me so I tend to do my stuff like surfing the net, play Facebook games and read blogs until my eyelids couldn't open anymore, by the way, I had shared a recipe in my previous post so do not miss it if you are into cooking *smile*

Polka Dots and Stripes

Oh, one of my fave purchases recently is this blouse! Got this at Bugis Village from a shop named Unicode. I'm into polka dots and stripes now and it's like love at first sight for this blouse. But I'm not a shopaholic and I shop rather cautiously these days. Will visit this shop again for my regular supply of attire and clothings because their items are really cheap and nice (value for money).

Recipe - Braised Sea Cucumber With Chicken Wings and Mushrooms

I am going to prepare this dish one day minus away the sea cucumber as I am not really sure how to handle it. Ingredients (serves 2 pax) 8 pcs of chicken wings, separate into winglets and drumlets. 2 medium size sea cucumber. 6-8 pcs of dried chinese mushroom, presoaked. Keep the mushroom water (200ml) for use. 1 knob of ginger, cut into slices. 3 stalks of spring onion, cut into long strips. 300ml chicken stock (I use Heinz) Method Rub salt onto the chicken wings and wash thoroughly. Heat a pot with some oil. Once hot, add half of the ginger and half of the spring onion. Once fragrant, add the sea cucumber, stir fry for a few minutes then add 150ml of chicken stock and 50ml of mushroom water. Let simmer for a few minutes, dish up and set aside. In the same pot, add somemore oil. Once hot, add the remaining ginger slices and spring onion. Once fragrant, add the chicken wings, stir fry for a few minutes then add the mu

Avillion Port Dickson

These are some of the reviews of Avillion Port Dickson, make me even more look forward to the trip. 1) Hi, came across your post while preparing for my own trip there just recently. Thanks for the lovely pics. Wanted to update you that there is now a spanking large LCD TV ( I think its 42" ) and free wifi internet access in the rooms too. My wife and I had a lovely time there and will definitely look to return sometime. So tranquil and the animals at the pet farm are a great idea! 2) One attraction for family with kids is a mini pet farm housing kampung pets like rabbits, roosters, hens, chickens, tortoises... Kids could feed, touch or bath a pet at designated timings. For city kids, I guess it's a special treat and interesting experience to see these animals up close and personal.

How to Give Without Expectations

We've all been there. You cover for your coworker because you know you'll need her assistance next month. You give your sister $20, and then silently look for ways she can pay you back, even if not monetarily. You help your friend get leads for a job, and then feel angry when she isn't as proactive in offering you support. I've found that these expectations cause more stress than joy. They mar the act of giving, they lead to disappointment if the person I helped doesn't return the kindness. Recently I've been asking myself, “What is my expectation?” before I do something for another person. The answer I find most acceptable—cheesy as it may sound—is: to feel good and show love. Strangely, when I release the need to control what I get for giving, I get enough, somehow. I've made a list of things you can do to show you care, without needing the recipient to return the kindness. 1. Give money you can spare to someone who needs it and then prete

Linda Wong, a singer from Hong Kong is one of my idols.  I love her song titled 别问我是谁 aka Don't ask who I am LOL! It was very popular in the nineties. By saying that, have you guess correctly what is my age?

Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup

I saw the advertisement launch of the Revlon Photoready airbrush mousse makeup recently and I was drawn to it. So I went to the Internet to search for the product reviews. These are the reviews I get: 1)  My face didn't really bond with this product nor did my nose.. The smell bothered me the first time I tried it and I convinved myself that I'll get use to it, but I didn't. The coverage is overall just average there wasn't anything that made me feel like I should put it on as much as my other drugstore foundation. It's just currently sitting on my counter right now and maybe... I'll try it again?? Still bothered by the smell though. 2) I like this product because its very light and does give me that airbrush look. But i saw it sank into my pores in less than an hour. I have combination/dry skin and it doesnt dry out my skin at all. 3) The texture is wonderful, and the coverage is even and buildable. I did some guesswork and found that my shade

Teach Our Children How to Learn

As parents, teachers and educators, many a times we concern ourselves with teaching the children WHAT to learn - grammar rules, vocabulary meanings, maths timetables, number patterns , etc and WHAT to do - reading, comprehension, problem sums, spelling tests , etc. And in the process we may have missed out on the equally important part of teaching them HOW to learn too. For example: To understand grammar rules, children need to first learn HOW to relate words and ideas ( relational thinking skills ) To remember the maths timetables, children need to first learn HOW to store and retrieve information ( memory skills ) And to figure out number patterns, children need to first learn HOW to analyse patterns ( analytical thinking ) Every expectation of what to do with a learning task needs to be first preceded by the child understanding and learning HOW to do it. In the same way when someone learns to swim, he/she must first learn HOW to blow bubbles in the water (in order to be ab
