Gathering with Yee Nor and her hubby

December 22 was "Dong Zhi", my mother whipped up curry chicken and roasted meat and some other dishes. At 2pm, I met up with Yee Nor, her hubby and their daughter Kirby at my house macdonalds restaurant. We had a very good chat for almost 2 and a half hours. Thereafter, Nor went to post a letter and bought toilet paper at Shop and Save near my house. Nor and her hubby also passed me a DVD to watch, the DVD is about filial piety and so on. It's a very educational and inspiring DVD, I am going to finish watching it.

I love my current life

Went Centrepoint with mom that day to look for Payless Shoesource departmental store which I got to know through a current affairs programme on TV. Was quite disappointed when I reached there as I couldn't find the shoes which I wanted. Ended up I bought a hat which is red in colour which costed me $12.90. LOL. Was quite happy with the hat though.

Trip to Malacca

Just went for a trip with Sok Hoon to Melaka from Nov 4 (Fri) to Nov 6 (Sun). We stayed at Equatorial Hotel. The first day when we arrived, after putting down our luggage at the hotel room, we proceed to the shopping malls nearby to do our shopping. As we already had a meal at the stopover before reaching Melaka, we did not eat until around 4.30pm that day. We went to Sushi King for our so called lunch. What I can say is the salmon they served were in one big piece as they did not slice it into smaller pieces so it was rather awful to eat it. After our meal, we continued our shopping. We went back to the hotel rather early at around 8pm because I felt tired as I did not sleep the day before I came Melaka. The second day I woke up at 9am and after that we proceed to our breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we walked our way to the places of interest such as the Christ Church of Melaka and Jonker Walk. I bought a blouse at the Hard Rock Cafe near Jonker Walk. Sok Hoon also bought some local delicacies. As we felt very tired after walking for so long under the sun, we decided to travel back to our hotel in a trishaw. The trishaw ride costed us RM10 and I find it rather worth it and reasonable as we were really tired after walking for so long. The trishaw rider was very friendly. We had a friendly chat with him and took photos with him too. That day at around 5.30pm after our dinner at the food court at Mahkota Parade, we went to a karaoke there named In Box Karaoke. It costed us RM16 for an hour. The songs were very limited, the sound system was poor and there wasn't any drinks served. After karaoke, we shopped for a while and went back to our hotel. The next day we are back to Singapore.

New mobile number

Yesterday, I bought a Singtel Hi-card for S$10 and started to have a new prepaid mobile number. I have decided to terminate my current postpaid mobile number as my current mobile bills chalked up to S$70 a month which is pretty expensive. With prepaid hi-card, every $28 I top up I get $100 of outgoing airtime and $20 overseas airtime which is more worth it. A new number also indicates a new beginning for me :)

Lighten up and laugh a lot

Think of people you know who make you laugh. Spend some time with them. Rent funny movies and watch them, alone or with friends. Watch comedies on TV. Read joke books. Make it a point to laugh at least three times a day. See how you feel at the end of the week.

You have hundreds of opportunities each day to do esteem-able acts. You don't have to do everything, but do something.

It all depends on what you are looking for, some people's goals maybe to earn loads and loads of money so that they can afford a luxury life and buy many material things and branded stuff. As for me, I am looking for quality life instead of quantity life, which means I prefer to earn less and yet have more time to spend with my family. It's ok for me if I can't eat good food, buy branded stuff as often as I can compared to last time. What I am looking for right now is more "bonding" time with my family.

These pictures above show the fashion styles in the 1990s. In the nineties, i was in my twenties, that was my prime time. I used to wear something similar, long skirts with boots. Also in fashion was vests wore over t-shirts or blouses. I miss the nineties and my 青春岁月. But I also learned something today, that we should look forward and not backwards, it's ok to treasure your memories but one should look forward too. I also feel that we should learned to pamper ourselves and reward ourselves and learn to be independent.

Today me and Joann had planned to meet up for dinner at Sakae Sushi Bugis but when we reached there, we found out that Sakae Sushi was closed for upgrading and renovation so we proceeded to MOF for our dinner. It was a great meal cos we chatted about many things, from ex-colleagues we both know, management people we both know to siblings we have and jobs we had. It was an interesting and stimulating chat with her. After dinner, at around 8pm, we went shopping at Bugis Junction. Joann bought a pair of shoes while I bought a fresh notebook at S$3.90. We left the place around 9.30pm, Joann took MRT back home while I took bus 80 to Geylang.

Am happy to receive the CD from HaveFunTeaching.com all the way from the United States. The CD is valued at US$12 so that means it costs S$24. It is an educational CD that covers the various Science topics such as matter, planets, senses, water cycle, seasons, animal and so on. But my friend, Yee Nor, is against my idea of taking up courses, she say it costs a lot to take up courses and I might not be able to pass at one go and it will cost even more. The need for tutors

I know why parents need tutors, because they feel that what their children are getting in school is simply not enough and that they are not getting the attention that tutors are able to give ie. one to one attention. They need tutors to give their children the extra mile in their studies, which explains the need for tutors. Somtimes, the parents themselves are too lazy or too tired to teach the kids themselves that's why they need a tutor, a helper to coach their kids on their studies.

I plan to keep track of my transport expenses by jotting down the dates and days when I top up my farecard, in this way I am able to keep track how fast I use up my farecard and it will also motivate me to better manage my transport expenses by planning the shortest routes to get to where I need to be. I also plan to cut down the days when I go out during weekdays and plan to go out only during weekends. This will cut down my expenses tremendously.

It is a fantastic website with many teaching resources for students and teachers to use. It covers a wide variety of subjects and themes from Maths, English, Phonics, Science, Social Studies and so on. It also has many tools to use such as worksheets, videos, flashcards, fun activities and songs. It is simply useful, comprehensive, interesting and stimulating to use. The exercise, worksheets and activities in there are simply interactive and encourage logical and creative thinking. Love of my life - Media & Teaching

Talk about 2 loves of my life, media and teaching. I had been in the media industry for 10 years and I had learned about media and advertising from scratch ever since I graduated from college. I love media because it is interesting and not boring. It uses a lot of numbers and I love numbers. As for teaching, I love nurturing young children and being creative in the methods i teach the kids. When they are able to grasp certain concepts after I taught them, there is a great sense of achievement and satisfaction. However, there are only 24 hours in a day, so I can't have both loves at the same time. What do you think? Do you think I should choose media or I should choose teaching? But media is more stressful than teaching, so is it clear that I should choose teaching as my career?

Today I had a shower in the afternoon and after that I set off to Bugis to the Guan Yin temple to pray for my family and my mother. After that, I went to QQ Noodles restaurant to meet up with my sis to have dinner. She had Wantan noodles while I didn't order anything as I already had Indian Rojak for my dinner. After that, we went to OG bugis to shop. She bought a box of 5 panties, 2 cotton shorts and a bag while I bought a blouse. It was nice shopping and chatting with my sis today and I hope I can go shopping with her more often.

I normally have a reference book for English with all the important chapters. I will teach my students chapter by chapter then test them. As for Comprehension, I will read the passage aloud to them then ask my students to read again. Once they finish reading, I will prompt when they answer the questions. As for Composition, I only teach them the technics but not the content, content wise I need them to think about it themselves. As for Maths, I will use interactive method where I will also prompt them and ask them to solve the problems step by step. In short, I will not spoon feed them instead I want them to be more responsive and learn to think on their own.

Just went for a Genting trip with Sok Hoon from 20 May to 22 May 2011. We had a great time singing karaoke, shopping and eating. It was overall a very relaxing and fun trip cos Sok Hoon is a great companion and she was very thoughtful throughout the trip. I hope to go for a trip with her again. It is a very relaxing Sunday afternoon now. Sis is going for a Batam trip tomorrow. I think it's time I do some planning for myself also, actually there's nothing much I could do, just wait for more tuition assignments, earn more income and go for short trips as and when I can.

Today my student hurt his fingers so he can't write so I have to do a lot of reading to him during the Chinese tuition lesson. After my tuition lesson with him, I went to meet up with my old classmate, Sok Hoon, at Circuit Road. It was a great one hour chat with her at the Japanese restaurant at Blk 51 Circuit Road. I had Ebi Fry Don and Chawanmushi while she had Ten Don and Lemon Tea. After that, when I went home, I had a shower and after that I waited for the chance to video chat with my youngest sister in Hong Kong. Sis video chatted with me, erjie and mother. Kind of miss her but hope she had a fun time in Hong Kong.

I found out and realised that it's not easy to build up relationships but it's easy to break them. Friends come, stay with you for few years, then friends leave. It's part and parcel of life. So always treasure the time you have with your friends, relatives, colleagues and so on. I have many friends in my facebook but I do not get to meet with most of them, or I should say, I meet up with none of them at all. It is only a virtual relationship. The only people by my side is my family so I should all the more treasure them.

Received a surprise call from Gina this evening. She "jio" me to go Malacca with her and another friend of hers on 9th April. Immediately I said yes cos I have been wanting to get out of the country on a short trip. She asked me if I can get another friend and immediately I thought of Sok Hoon. I called her and she was on a bus. She was quite spontaneous and quite like the idea of going for a short trip. However she needs to check her project schedule and let me know if she can make it. Was happy because it's a chance to unwind and catch up with old friends. Sok Hoon was my schoolmate and classmate whom I had lost touch for a long time but managed to contact each other through Facebook. This is the wonder of Facebook.

Wednesday was my off day, I took the chance to go to Popular Bookstore at Bras Basah Complex to buy assessment books for my students. However, when I reached there at around 7.10pm, I found out that Popular Bookstore is closed at 7pm on weekdays. So I had got no choice but to go to other bookstores to look for the assessment books for my students. I managed to locate a bookstore which sells and buys used books. There, I managed to locate two suitable assessment books. One of them is about the topic of composition writing for Primary 4 student and the other one is about the topic of writing chinese compositions for Primary 5 student. I feel a sense of satisfaction as I managed to find suitable books for my students. On the whole, even though it's a short trip, it was gratifying.

No spend day

Today I told myself that I should not spend unnecessarily. And then, just now, I saw in IMMOMSDAUGHTER blog this idea about a "no spend day". In short, it means other than allocated necessities, we are encouraged to set our own goal for the number of days where one will not spend unnecessarily. I think this is a good idea so I have set aside 15 "no spend" days for a start. I think this should not be a huge problem because as mentioned by IMMOMSDAUGHTER this is only half of a month. I shall start from tomorrow onwards and after 15 days it will lead me to a new month (April). Thereafter, I shall see what is the result I achieved.

2 assignments within a day and I earned $115 within a day. I like the 5 room flat deco at Blk 110 Aljunied Crescent, their house is so neat and tidy and I like it so much. However, the mother does not appear friendly but at least she mentioned about the payment. The second assignment was at Lengkok Mariam, a private housing area. This one the mother appeared much warmer and friendlier. She kept saying thank you to me and was concerned that her neighbourhood was very quiet at night after the class.

My Filipino student

The above pic is unrelated to the post here. It has appeared here becos I find that it is a nice pic. Last night was my first attempt teaching a Filipino student. Her name is Isabella. She was a bit restless last night but overall she was rather obedient and scored 100 marks for her Hanyu Pinyin spelling. Her parents want me to coach her on Chinese becos they don't speak Chinese at home at all. I taught Isabella 飞机，狗，门，杯子，玩具，猫，and their Hanyu Pinyin last night. I even asked her to attempt a CA1 paper from one of the schools. Her mother appeared friendly and approachable to me and I can see that she's quite worried about her daughter. I will try my best to guide her in her Chinese. By the way, she is in Primary One this year.

I really think I should make an effort to cut down on my mobile phone expenses. Has been using my mobile phone to surf Facebook and update my Facebook status as a result my mobile phone charges have went up. This is because my mobile phone plan does not come with a data plan as such charges are on the high side. Just to sidetrack a bit, suddenly think that I have been spending much of my leisure time blogging/blog-hopping/facebooking, is that a good sign or not a very good sign, I wonder.

When it comes to computers, which do you rather prefer? Laptop or pc desktops? Initially, I was using the desktop, in fact for around five years and then only last year, I bought an Acer netbook. If you ask me, I prefer using a laptop now. The reason is that I can take it wherever I go, I cannot "live" without checking into my Facebook each day! But then generally, pc desktops are more durable and lasting than laptops. Agree?

Houseworks

Which household tasks are you prepared to do and which do you try to avoid? Hardly anyone loves housework. Housework is avoided by everyone and I am no exception. I generally put off doing houseworks as long as I can and do it only when it is unavoidable. There is a list of houseworks which I prefer to do and a list which I avoid. I prefer to fold the clothes because I love to see the clothes neat and tidy. My next preferred housework is washing the dishes. Normally when I see dishes in the sink, I would automatically wash them. Now for the jobs I detest. I avoid washing clothes. It is quite tedious cos most of my clothes are hand washed. The next chore I hate is ironing the clothes. I find that it is very time consuming and tedious. Last but not least, I also hate sweeping the floor. Well, so which household tasks are you prepared to do and which do you try to avoid? :)

Reunion Dinner

This year reunion dinner is so normal and quiet because my beloved Dad is no longer around. However, I think my Dad will want me to stay cheerful, strong and happy even though he has now gone to Heaven. Anyway, let's not talk about sad things. Here are some photos of the dishes my Mom cooked for the reunion dinner. They are curry chicken and prawns. Don't they look delicious. I prefer home cooked food because I can avoid the crowds and long waiting time at restaurants during cny period. Moreover, I think during cny period, the standard of the food they served will drop because of the bulk they need to cook to cater to the customers.

Trip to IKEA Tampines

Went to IKEA Tampines on 10 Feb 2011, Thursday, to shop. This is the first time I been to IKEA Tampines branch. I alighted at Tampines MRT Station and took a shuttle bus there. I intended to buy some storage boxes to store some of our home items. Finally I set my mind to buy four HABOL boxes at S$6.90 for two boxes. I also bought a SOMRIG vase for S$1.50 and three SNARTIG ART flowers at S$0.90 each. It was a gratifying trip. However, the boxes were too heavy for me so I decided to take a cab back home. The taxi fare costed around S$12.00, so in total I spent around S$30 for the trip. By the way, I also had Laksa and Coke at the restaurant outlet there. I also managed to take some photographs of the Showroom there and posted it on Facebook. Received likes for the photographs.

New Look!

My god!!! It's been ages since I last blogged. It has been almost a year since I last blogged. Had been busy with Facebook which explains my disappearance from my blog. Finally decided to write again after giving a new look to my blog. So many changes had happened since then. One major event was the passing on of my beloved dad last year. I hope to remember his love and not the pain of losing him. My chinese horoscope says that this year will be a good year for me. Well, I am looking forward to that man!!! But so far things have been going well for me. So I can say that I am quite satisfied with everything. I looking forward to more tuition assignments and the chance of earning more income. Hope my wish will come true. As for my fellow friends, I wish them smooth sailing in their life, career and family. Same for fellow bloggers :)

How to encourage reading in your child

These days, with the evolution of technology, children have a wealth of options for entertainment in the form of games, the internet and so on. But, as a parent, you know that nothing can quite match the enrichment reading gives. Furthermore, it is the basis for learning and doing well in school.

Hence, you find yourself anxious when your kids favour other leisure forms, or worst, shun books at all costs. Forcing them to read with nagging sessions will only fuel their dislike for it. The following are some simple and less draining ways to inculcate the habit of reading in them.

BOOK ALLOWANCE
Just like pocket money, set aside an allowance for their book purchases once every month. Give them the liberty to pick up titles on their own, as long as they are not too violent or inappropriate.

MAKE VISITING THE LIBRARY OR BOOKSHOP A REGULAR AFFAIR
Just like tuition, have a fix day of the week set aside for visiting libraries or bookshops, regardless of whether there are any books to borrow or buy.

SERIES
Expose them to book series or prolific authors with numerous published titles under their names. Once your children become fans, they will automatically be requesting for more of these books. Be prepared to pay!

READING NEED NOT STRICTLY BE BOOKS
Magazines and comics add spice to their reading diet. In addition, their topics vary and serve to extend their knowledge within a single reading.

KIDS SEE, KIDS DO
Start being a role model. You cannot possibly convince them to read, if you do not do it yourself.

READING UP ON HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
Get them books or any publications on their hobbies or interests, and they should naturally be reading them in no time.

THEIR OWN FUN LIBRARY
Designate a corner of their bedroom for their very own library that they could run to, whenever they feel like it. Make the place as fun as you can with cute stickers, posters, beanbags or even a tent with a lamp. The trick to drawing them in, is to make it a place, they will love hanging out at.

ENCOURAGE RE-READING
Just because your kids have finished certain books, does not mean it is time to throw them away. Keep read books at an accessible spot or at their room libraries. Your young ones might like them so much that they do not mind re-reading the same books over and over again.

TOILET READING
Have books placed in the toilet. As weird as it seems, you will be amazed at how much more receptive they will be to reading in there, due to the lack of distractions.

PACK A BOOK
Commuting and travelling are great times for reading. Try to pack a book or two into their bags as they will most likely read just to pass the time.

Ease them into these suggested tips with patience. Further pressure will only strengthen their phobia for reading. Do make sure that they do not strain their eyes by letting them read in an optimally lighted area, and remind them to take regular vision breaks.

However, if you find that your children are still resistant toward reading, you could be facing a more serious problem than just reluctance alone. Dyslexia could most likely be the enemy. This common inborn condition greatly hampers one’s ability to read and comprehend texts normally, thus creating a great amount of pressure and phobia in its sufferers. Should you suspect that it is the case, contact a medical professional for help as soon as you can, as it can be significantly alleviated upon early detection.

Fried Chicken Wings... Yummy!!!

I am going to try the following recipe which I found in mamabliss's blog (www.mamabliss.blogspot.com) one of these days :)

Here's the ingredients -
1 packet chicken mid-wing (approximately 600gms)
Rice Flour *(secret ingredient)
Bread Crumps (Japanese)
1 Egg beaten

Marinate for the chicken wings -
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
A few dashes of pepper

Method of Preparation -
Step 1) Marinate the chicken for over 2 hours
Step 2) Dip chicken wings into rice flour
Step 3) Dip chicken wings into beaten egg
Step 4) Dip chicken wings into bread crumps
Step 5) Leave the chicken wings to set for an hour
Step 6) Heat oil on high heat
Step 7) Lower the fire to medium and start pan-frying the chicken wings
Step 8) After the chicken wings have turned golden brown remove from pan and drain off oil
Step 9) Serve with mayonnaise

1. The only thing I want to say about the Star Awards is that I discovered that Chen Hanwei's acting has improved.

2. I remembered I once travelled to Penang alone, on my own. Recently I had read an article which reports that time spent alone is therapeutic. Here's the article:

I love to be alone. This may sound absurd, but for me, being alone is somewhat therapeutic. On one hand, you could chalk this up to the fact that I am an only child. Many only children are very comfortable being alone and are happy doing things by themselves. Or, you might think it is because I am an introvert (Although I have very extroverted moments, I am indeed an introvert at heart). It doesn't matter what I do when I am alone, as long as I get my 'me time' fix. I might shop. I might write. I might take a run. I might take a bath. I might even just veg out in front of the TV. Whatever the activity, it gives me the time I need to get away from others and to let myself recharge.
Being alone isn't a statement about your relationships. Although I believe that relationships with others are a very important aspect to life and to our happiness, spending time alone is also extremely beneficial to our mental health and happiness. Here is why:
1. Self Discovery: Spending time alone gives you the ability to discover things about yourself and to get a real understanding of who you are. We have grown to appreciate the art of getting to know others, but in reality, it is even more important to get to know ourselves, our preferences, our likes and dislikes without other people's influences.
2. Higher Sense of Independence and Increased Self-Esteem: Being alone and getting comfortable with being alone gives you a higher sense of independence. Relying on yourself to make choices and decisions increases your self confidence, which then permeates other aspects of your life, including the times you are in the presence of others.
3. No Need to Compromise: Often, we compromise when we are in the presence of others. We usually work with one another to reach agreement on everything, from what we will have for dinner to what TV show to watch. Spending time alone allows you to indulge yourself with the things you want to do and the things you love, without any negotiation.
4. Rejuvenation for Your Soul: Getting away from others allows you to decompress and relax. It gives you a break from the have tos and allows you to focus on the want tos. It lets you address your own needs as opposed to everyone elses and gives you the opportunity to rejuvenate and push the 'restart' button.
5. A Fresh Perspective: Time alone gives you the opportunity to clear your mind and to weed through a lot of thoughts. This allows you to get to the heart of what YOU really think as opposed to being told or influenced by others and their opinions. It gives you time to reflect on what is important in your life and how you feel about every day situations that need to be addressed.
6. Higher Appreciation for Those You Love: Giving yourself the ability to be alone allows you to have a greater appreciation for the time you spend with others. If you never have time for yourself, you'll wish you did. It is important to find some balance in this; but once you do, you'll enjoy your relationships even more.
If you find that spending time alone is challenging, try to start with a small 'dosage' each day...even if it is for only 5 minutes. Each day, try to amp it up by a minute or so until you get to an hour. After practicing being alone, you will find it comes more naturally in time.

I find that my life has changed! Last time, just work work work, go out go out go out. Now my life is more simple and with no big surprises. Is that change for the better, I wonder. So I think LIFE HAS CHANGED!!!!

Iluma at Bugis

Went to Iluma at Bugis just now and bought a pair of sandals from D & C. Observed that most of the shops are still not opened yet at this stage. Iluma, a 10 story shopping mall with more than 150 outlets, is located within the Bugis district.

Just to sidetrack a bit, this is what my PCC kakhi thinks of me:

"Chatted over the phone with my pcc kakhi (let's call her L) last night, were laughing most of the time. Was surprised that she is still single despite that she is pretty and older but hey, she looks much younger than her actual age!"

Just to share what I put in my drawers so that some of you may get some storage and home organization ideas from there. These are the items I put in my drawers:

1. Packets of tissue paper
2. Photo Albums (of my trips to Korea, Turkey, Genting etc)
3. Magazines (Home decor magazines etc)
4. Files (of my utilities bills, handphone bills, CPF statements, Insurance statements etc)
5. Books (Buddhist books, self improvement books etc)

I simply love the beige colour finish of my drawers.

Just now, in the afternoon, I ran into my old secondary school classmate, Huili and we exchanged contacts (handphone number) just downstairs my house. She still looks the same after so many years. We have not met each other for so many years after we left school. It is such a nice feeling to see her again. I find that "The Brink of Law" is a nice TVB drama with many twists and turns, that's why I had decided to watch it again. I rented it from Grand Central Video Pte Ltd and it costs $1 per episode which means a total of $26 for 26 episodes. Yeah, I can watch it again together with my family - one of my leisure activity... :)

It was an achievement for me.. After having stopped singing on stage for so long, last nite I managed to sing with full confidence on stage. It was really an accomplishment for me. I am also glad to receive the support from Dad. He kept saying: "You are good, you are good!" Haha :)

Went to Chinatown last nite with Dad and Mom. Ran into my bugis neighbour at CK. She saw me too and smiled at me. Dad bought a new blouse and Mom bought a new pants. I also bought a pair of new heels which cost $22. Received a new year SMS from Bee Ying last nite. Glad that she still remembers me.

Went to Watch Ip Man with sis. Wow, the movie was great with all the stunts and kung fu. Went to watch it at one of Cathay's cineplexes at AMK Hub. The show started at 7.10pm. Really can see the difference between Cathay and Eng Wah's cineplexes. Even the staff at Cathay was dressed in much smarter uniforms than Eng Wah's staff. It's been a long time since we last watched a movie. The last movie I watched was Bolt at Eng Wah.

Isn't it exciting and fun? I had placed a customised order with Mamabliss's blogshop. According to her, I am her very first customer who placed a customised order with her. She asked what kind of fabric and colours I like and I've told her I like floral prints and the colours I like are brown, white and maroon. I had thanked her for taking the efforts to sew me a bag. This idea of placing an order with her comes after I saw what she sewed for Tim. Isn't Tim's bag simply lovely (see pic above). Oh, I simply can't wait to receive the bag from her. There's so much fun and excitement in all these anticipation.

This is what I had bought for my student today. In "My Helpful Pal - Primary 2 Maths", a great number of questions are specially planned and designed to stimulate the pupils' thinking and strengthen their understanding. Tomorrow I am going to revise with my student on the topic of subtraction with regrouping. I had taught him that last week and I hope he still remember the concept. Today I had also learned something on the topic of agreement which is when two subjects differ in number, the verb agrees with the subject that is nearer to it, for example:

* Neither these three nor that one is up to standard.
* Neither this dress nor those two are suitable.

Today is my first lesson with Michelle after around 2 months break. She is quite inattentive during the lesson, maybe due to her "holiday mood". I taught her how to round off numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand and ten thousand today. Also got to know from her that she got band 2 for her Science, band 2 for English and Band 3 for Maths. I will focus more on her Maths next year since her weakest subject is Maths.

Genting Highlands

I went to Genting Highlands in Malaysia with my family during the CNY in 2006. It is situated on a hilltop. The air was very fresh and it was cold. Luckily, I had my sweater wtih me. The scenery was very beautiful too. We took many photographs. There were many tourists there and it was very crowded. The food was expensive.

Managed to set up my christmas tree tonight. Spent about 1/2 hour for the set up. Well, this christmas we are facing the recession and downturn but let's look at things on the bright side. Hope everyone is doing well. After setting up the christmas tree, I went to play the christmas songs... Enjoy everyone and an advance Merry Christmas to everyone out there! By the way, bought the christmas songs CD a few years back. The song titles it includes are "Sleigh Ride", "Winter Wonderland", "Jingle Bells", "Frosty The Snowman", "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", "Christmas Bells Are Ringing", "Little Drummer Boy", and "Silent Night" etc. :)

Taught Min Hui on "Can". "cannot", "may" and "may not" today. I feel that there is an element of "uncertainty" in "may" and "may not". Also taught her "but", "or", "and", because" and "since". These are known as connectors in grammar.

Ikea Alexandra - here I come!

Went to Ikea Alexandra last night by taking bus 80 to bugis and changing to bus 197. We alighted opposite Queensway Shopping Centre and walked there. It was a gratifying trip. First we went to the showroom, thereafter we went to level 1 to purchase our stuff. The hotdog bread there was simply delicious and cheap, just $1 for one. We ate two each in total. Ikea is very smart to attract customers by using such cheap attractions like food. We have nothing much to buy at the moment, so we just bought a white bath towel for $2.50. We reached there at 8pm sharp. I intend to buy a new warbrobe or a new sofa in future. Like their ideas and items on home organisation. It is simply great!

Retail Therapy

Went to Bugis Village last nite to get the "big bag" which I wanted to get for so long. Bought the above bag in the end at $21. Like the bag cos it got a "branded" feel. Just now, went to Queensway Shopping Centre with my dear sis to shop. Took bus 80 to Bugis and changed to bus 197 to reach there. Sis bought 3 jeans and 1 shirt for $152. It is indeed retail therapy cos we both feel very happy after getting the things we want. Discovered that Ikea is just diagonally opposite Queensway Shopping Centre. Next time if I want to go to Ikea, I can just take bus 80 and change to bus 197 (can save on cab fare).

Shopping at Bugis

Went to Bugis just now with my dear sis to shop. Found out that Bugis landscape has changed a lot. One such change is the new building besides Bugis Village is up already, so fast! My sis wanted to buy jeans but couldn't find anything suitable. Well, as for me, I spotted a very nice grey blouse and bought it at $15. I realised that one of my favourite colours is grey and grey suits me very well! It is cheap and good. We took bus 80 there and the MRT home. Oh yes! By the way, we had fish soup noodles at the coffeshop near Bugis. It is sis's off day today (Wed) and it is an evening well spent becos I bought something which I like! :)

Let's go fishing

Yesterday, we went to Pasir Ris for a fishing trip! It's been quite long since we went Pasir Ris to fish. Dad brought his fishing rod and off we go! We reached there in the evening. Ah gu's family arrived after a while. At around 10.00pm, we had pineapple fried rice and satay. Kok Cheng and Kok How (my cousins) brought 2 friends along. One of them even asked me if fish has ears and I sort of don't know how to answer him! Father caught 3 fishes during the night. We laid newspapers on the floor and played cards for a while. It was quite an enjoyable family outing and I hope we can come here again. It's good to engage in family outings and outdoor activities like these :)

Eat, drink and be merry

Yesterday (Tuesday), I went for a dinner outing with my Dad and Mom. It is near Farrer Park MRT Station. There is a 歌台near it. The food was good. We had appetizers, prawns, fish, suckling pig, buns, abalone and dessert. It was a relaxing dinner outing with my parents. I want to turn up again next year, in better shape. It is on the 农历八月十七 of every year. Hope by then, I would have achieved my aim and target.

Suddenly had this idea to blog about my neighbourhood. In my neighbourhood, there are plenty of hair salons (almost more than 15 of them), 3 cake shops, one post office, a hawker centre, two banks, one furniture shop, a library, a public swimming pool and the most impt of them a NTUC supermarket! The NTUC supermarket is just downstairs our house which is indeed very convenient for us. We do not have to travel very far to get our daily neccessities and groceries. Just few days back, I discovered that Estila had a new signboard put up, so I decided to take a pic of it and here it is.

The DS and PSP are my youngest sister's possessions and the Ipod is mine, which I bought for around $238 at Orchard, Wheelock Place.
